WEATHER AND CLIMATE IN FINLAND
SUMMER (June, July, August)
Summer in Finland is warm, green and full of daylight!
- Weather: Temperatures are usually between 15°C and 25°C, sometimes a bit warmer on sunny days.
- Daylight: Days are very long, especially in June and July. In the south, it might stay light until midnight! In the north, the sun never sets for weeks — it’s called the Midnight Sun.
- Clothes to pack:
- Light clothing for warm days (T-shirts, shorts)
- A sweater or jacket for cooler evenings
- Raincoat or waterproof jacket (just in case it rains)
- Sneakers or hiking shoes for nature walks
- Swimwear – many lakes are warm enough for swimming!
The weather can be changeable and surprisingly cool, please make sure you pack wisely 🙂
WINTER (December, January, February)
Winter in Finland is snowy, cold and full of magic!
- Weather: Temperatures can be from 0°C to -20°C, and sometimes even colder. There’s lots of snow – perfect for playing outside.
- Daylight: Days are very short. In southern Finland, it might only be light from about 9 am to 3 pm. In the far north, the sun may not rise at all for a few weeks — this is called the Polar Night.
- Clothes to pack:
- Warm winter coat
- Thermal underwear and wool socks
- Gloves, scarf, and a warm hat
- Snow boots
- Ski pants or overalls
